October 1, 2020Greetings Terraformers!
We hope the week is treating you well so far! Today we wanted to give you a quick update to show how things are progress from rough draft to final production.
We are starting to get samples of the components and its always interesting to see how things look on the screen, to 3D print, and finally when they are made with the actual production tooling. Today we wanted to share images with the core of the box - the inserts. These are actually the second iteration of the inserts - and we've already made changes based on the first set we got while the project was running. Those changes we first to increase the space in the upper component tray (under the miniatures) to store more things - like the cardboard tokens that people might want to keep even after they have their new minis! See if you can spot the other change we made in the following video:
Those of you with eagle eyes will see that we changed the layout of how the minis are stored in the trays. This actually accomplishes a number of different improvements - the most important is this new layout does a much better job of holding all the minis in place when the box is placed on its side. The new layout also holds more minis - so ocean tiles don't need to be stacked to fit and there is room for extras that you might want to add in the future (or have already).
If you have super eagle eyes you might have also noticed that that player cube holders aren't in player colors - which is still the plan. As we are still planning on having the resource cube holders in gray so they are more visible when in the tray. And since we wanted to make sure that you didn't have to meticulously stack each of these cubes in their holders to get it all to fit - we made room for extras.
This is a player cube holder with 60 cubes:
And this is one of the two resource cube holders crammed with 165 copper (1MC) cubes, 56 silver (5MC) cubes, and 38 gold (10MC) cubes - so much more than enough to hold all the cubes in the game and maybe even a few extra for those that got the metal cube upgrades but want to keep some of the old cubes!
We still have a few tweaks to make to these inserts before they are final - but it is super exciting to see things moving along.
That's all we have for today. We hope the rest of your week goes great, and thank you for your support!
Cheers!
