Each player begins by discarding and removing from play two of the standard light chips - one marked 1/6, and one marked 3/4.
Once each player has placed a light chip on top of their starting marker, the two new chips are added to their bag to be shuffled in amongst the others.
These chips comprise, for each player -
1. Light Chip 0/7: this entitles the player to place a light chip either directly on top of it, or 7 spaces away from it, depending on which face is placed uppermost.
2. Diagonal Light Chip (marked 1 on one side and 6 on the other, each side with the 'diagonal' markers): this entitles the player to place a light chip either one or 6 spaces away from it, IN A DIAGONAL DIRECTION, depending on which face is placed uppermost.
A literal reading of these rules, as they are printed in English [and, as far as I can tell, those in the original German as well], suggests that the new chips are not added until ALL players have played a numbered chip on top of his start marker - something which may not happen in the game - and at that point ALL players add the extra chips in.
I guess this makes for a good add-in to an already well-regarded game, in that it makes little (and sometimes no) difference to regular game-play.
A bolder rule set for the new chips might have had each player add his/her own extra chips to his/her bag as soon as a numbered chip is played onto his/her start marker; or even that the new chips are added right at the start of the game, after discarding the 1/6 and 3/4 as already described.
