Limited edition: 300 games (or less, game parts are limited in stock)
In *Beasty Borders* both players want to group their animals in the landscape.
GAME CONTENT
PREPARATION
TURNS
The start player rolls the D8 and moves the steps-marker by a number of empty grass spaces equal to the number on the die, in the direction marked by the signpost. If the end of a row is reached, you count further at the next row below the signpost. Now this player chooses which of their 3 types of animals to place in the space with the steps-marker, or to pass.
If the player chose to place an animal, then the other player plays the next turn, so will roll the die to move the steps-marker and place an own animal or pass. And so on.
If the die-roller passes, the other player can choose to place an animal there, or pass too.
If both players pass, an empty-space disc gets placed there and this space stays empty.
If you pass in your own turn, you will roll the die for the next turn too, so you have the first choice again!!
ENDSCORE
Finally several groups, no very big groups in this example game.
Groups of 1/2/3/4/5/6/7/8 animals bring respectively 0/1/3/5/7/8/9/10 points for the endscore.
In case of a tie in the endscore, the player with the most placed animals wins.
Here the farm animals have groups of 4 pigs and 3 and 4 cows, so 5+3+5=13 points.
While the wild animals have groups of 3 butterflies, 4 and 3 rabbits and 4 snakes, so win with 3+5+3+5=16 points.
My thoughts about the tactics:
It's much luck, much depth, much drama. You often adapt your plans to new situations. Very light rulewise, but exciting to play smart. The tension for the big points builds up towards the end of the game.
It's much about estimating the chances for the rest of the game. Each new start landscape and each situation makes the depths different.
The die never follows your plan, so you must update your plans often.
You want good perspectives for your 3 different animal types to form groups, and at the same time want to give your opponent small remaining landscape spaces to let the opponent's animals spread over many groups.
Sometimes things look easy and then suddenly you get an "Oh no, what should I do here???" turn.
Passing at the right moments is important.
The "no luck" variant in the rulebook is very cool/special too. Certainly advised to try that too!!
- Check your game at the Essen-fair Cwali-booth 1-G125! There will be no deliveries later for missing or damaged parts. In the booth we will have bubble-wrap etc., so you can pack the game/parts yourself.
- Each game contains a different set of 40 animals (5, 5, 7, 7, 8 and 8). You get a random game, though in the booth we offer you to choose 1 game from 3 random copies (the boxes aren't sealed) after you buy. Games can contain Cows, Goats, Sheep, Pigs, Roosters, Horses, Camels, Ducks, Rabbits, Tigers, Reptiles, Apes, Bears, Deer, Kangaroos, Snakes, Pinquins, Rats, Frogs, Elephants, Squirrels, Turtles, Caterpillars, Owls, Dragonflies, Crocodiles, Butterflies and Pigeons.
OTHER CWALI-GAMES:
With delivery it's not possible to add other games to send together. (You can order other Cwali-games at the Cwalishop.) For the Spiel-pickup games you can add other games in your pledge by adding the game price which you see at the Cwalishop.
- Why 70 games to back for pick-up at the Spiel-fair?
Several copies are pre-ordered already, and we want to keep games available for visitors who play the game in the Spiel booth.
- Why 30 games for delivery?
It contains small ceramic animals, so it's breakable which makes delivery possible-but-expensive. We decide not to send except for 30 games. We can pack the game parts well, but it takes much packing time, therefore the number of games to send is limited.
- Why the 250-300 games printrun?
In stock are 300 boxes, and ceramic animals for between 250 and 300 games (not counted precise yet). So a higher number of games wouldn't be ready for the Spiel-fair.
- Why no larger printrun with other materials?
That was an idea too, but it wouldn't be ready for the Essen-fair and I'm not patient. :)
And 2-player-games and light games are risky genres for my sales.
